On the evening of September 6, 2024, during the annual Rockland County Firefighters Association Convention, members of the West Haverstraw Fire Department, Volunteer Hose Company #2, alongside the Thiells Fire Department and the RC Tech Rescue team, were awarded the Joseph K. Wright Unit Citation Award for their efforts during a rescue operation on February 7, 2024.
Members spent nearly 60 minutes cutting through various metal walls to reach the trapped and injured worker. This kind of rescue is not taught during fire academy training. Members dedicated countless hours to additional technical rescue training, along with applying their daily job-related skills, to make this rescue as successful as it was.
Job well done by all volunteers involved that morning.
